Karatekas continue to shine, win 16 medals

ITANAGAR, Feb 02: The karate players of Arunachal Pradesh once again have shown their class and supremacy by clinching as many as 16 medals, including 10 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze, in the just concluded 3rd Indo-Bhutan Karate Championship at Town Hall, Kalimpong, Darjeeling from January 30- 31, according to Arunachal Karate Do Association.

The medal winning players are, Joseph Parang Londa (1 gold, 1 silver), Atta Tayung (Gold), Rumik Baby (Gold), Bagang Nagung (2 gold), Biri Tasso (Gold), Biri Moni (2 gold), Yasa Rie (1 gold  1 bronze), Ha Rimi (1 gold  1 silver), Lingdum Tagi (bronze), Tada Eba (2 silver Kata).

The state team was led by Sensei Prakash Limbu as a team coach.

 

Arunachalee tech officials in National Games

ITANAGAR, Feb 02: Christine Borang of Arunachal Pradesh has been selected as technical official for Taekwondo event in the 35th National Games 2015 being held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

She is the lone technical official from the state out of the total 44 appointed for the event. Taekwondo events will be held at Vellayani Indoor Stadium from February 10 to 13.

 

Jongsam retires

ITANAGAR, Feb 2: S. J. Jongsam, IFS, the first All India Service Officer of undivided Tirap retired from Govt. Service as CCF on Jan 31 2015 after a chequered 37 years of active service. All throughout his service life he had led from the front and strived to give justice to his duties. He followed the guiding principle of unity and team spirit.

In his farewell speech, the officer conveyed his gratitude to the Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh and to the people of Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts for giving him an opportunity to serve the state in various capacities. He advised the officers and staff of the Southern Arunachal Circle to be disciplined, selfless and to work as a team.

A former student of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapeeth, Puralia, West Bengal, he did his Bsc (Agri) during 1977 from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat. He joined govt service as an Assistant Conservator of Forests in 1981. He was inducted into IFS in 1992.

 

Training prog on AutoCAD and photoshop

ITANAGAR, Feb 2: Drawing is the language of engineers and para-engineers of the works departments, said ATI director Pate Marik while addressing  the inaugural session of the 15 days long training programme on “AutoCAD and photoshop” for the assistant urban programme officers and draughtsman of UD and housing department at ATI today. He said AutoCAD is the mother of all Computer Added Designs (CAD) and also an art of engineering for drawing master plans on 3D model of buildings, roads, bridges, culverts, water tanks, stadiums etc.

In regards to Photoshop, the Director ATI said that it is the predominant photo editing and manipulation software where one can edit any kind of images and texts. It is the only software that the users, basically the engineers and planners, edit images for projected site to give realistic view in advance.

He advised the participants to show high degree of punctuality, sincerity and discipline during the two weeks training period to obtain maximum benefits from the course exclusively designed for them. The programme is being sponsored by department of UD & Housing and being participated by 26 officials.

Palbindar Singh, Course Director - cum- Director, ITI Computer Educational Institute, Course Coordinator -cum -Assistant Director (ATI), Prescilla Tayeng & Assistant Director Nani Khambo also spoke on the occasion.

 

Reservation for women

YINGKIONG, Feb 2: The 8-Payindem ZPM seat and 24-Gelling ASM seat have been declared as reserved seats for women for the ensuing Panchayat bi-election polls.

IMC seeks admin support in HH survey

ITANAGAR, Feb 2: The Chief Municipal Executive Officer, Itanagar Municipal Council (IMC) has sought the cooperation of the Capital district administration in its plan for effective garbage management in the Capital.

In a letter to the Capital DC, CMEO Bokar Basar requested the administration to issue a directive to the capital dwellers to cooperate with the IMC in house hold survey and collection of garbage collection fee for better garbage management in greater interest of the public.

Informing that after taking over the charge of sanitation subject from the department of UD during April last year, the IMC is trying its best for maintaining cleanliness of the city. However, the CMEO said, after completion of 10 months, no fund has so far received from the Govt. and it managed from own resources for maintenance of sanitation garbage lifting vehicles and POL items.

“There is credit bill amount of more than Rs. 58 Lakhs in petrol pump and Rs. 24 lakhs for vehicle maintenance and hiring charges of vehicle Rs. 18 lakhs. Under such circumstances, the IMC will continue to face hardship in garbage management unless fund being managed from own resources.

Basar further informed that considering the hardship being faced, the IMC and Members of Empowered Standing Committee resolved to collect fees from the every household, market areas, industrial, institutions and other establishments under the IMC jurisdiction. The rate of the fees has also been fixed by the council.

 

NYK’s mass awareness prog on development schemes

ITANAGAR, Feb 2: The Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) Tezu recently launched two months long mass awareness programme on Govt schemes being implemented in various levels for the benefit of common people. More than 400 youths, school students and teachers, general public took part in the launching programme.

Addressing the launching ceremony at Yealiang, Sunpura Circle under Lohit District, Cultural & Literary Society of Mishmi (CALSOM) general secretary Suraj Tayang appreciated NYKS for taking such good imitative. He asked youths, PRI members to extend cooperation and support the 60 days mass awareness campaign being launched by the NYKS volunteers.

Speaking on the occasion, district NYK youth coordinator Pailo Mihu highlighted the objective of the programme. While mentioning various development schemes and programmes of the Govt being implemented in district level, he said the common people could not reap full benefit of such schemes due to lack of awareness and knowledge about the schemes.

Lod Takar, Extra Assistant Comissioner, Sunpura Circle, Bikeso Tega, ZPM Sunpura and other Panchayat Members, Gaon Buras also spoke on the occasion.

 

Anti–leprosy fortnight observed

SEPPA, Feb 2: Anti-Leprosy Fortnight was observed at District Hospital, Seppa on January 30 coinciding with Martyrdom Day of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi.

District Medical Officer (DMO) Dr. N Geiyi briefed the general health care staff on basic field knowledge for prompt treatment and prevention of leprosy cases. He asked the field functionaries to conduct house to house survey in slum areas to identify suspected leprosy cases for treatment. Leprosy is curable at any stage, he said.

Medical Superintendent Dr. K Gyadi explained about leprosy, its symptoms, treatment and prevention. He urged the medical staff to gear up IEC activity in remote areas.

Dr. D. Pizi sought co-operation and dedicated services of the staff for eradication of leprosy.

Appeal for ADC headquarter

ITANAGAR, Feb 2: Riga Employee Welfare Association appealed the state government for upgradation of Riga EAC headquarters to an independent ADC headquarters.

In a press statement, the association claimed that Riga being one of the oldest villages of Adi belt having densely populated circle, is far off from newly created Siang district headquarter.

Let sense of security and justice prevail: Governor Sharma

State Level Core Group Meeting

ITANAGAR, Feb 2: There must be sense of security and justice among the people; said Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma at the third State Level Core Group Meeting at Itanagar on Feb 2.

The writ of the State must be felt at every corner and there should be no hurdle in enforcing the law or implementing the programmes of the State. If we want to develop the State to its potential, we have to ensure that the rule of law prevails and ‘societal indifferent’ attitude must be expunged, he stressed.

The Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, Home Minister Tanga Byaling, Parliamentary Secretary (Home) Likha Saaya, Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi and senior officers of Army, Police and Para Military forces attended the meeting. The meeting deliberated on various issues and broad strategies was drawn upto strengthen measures to address insurgency problem, law and order problem, international/ inter-state border management and synergy between all security and civil administration.

The Governor advised the ‘Core Group’ to have better coordination and synergy amongst the security agencies, while stating that stake of Arunachal Pradesh is higher as it is a Frontier State. Underscoring on the need to do more and introspection, the Governor asked the members of the core group to suggest means to improve the security scenario.  

The Governor also called for up-gradation of intelligence gathering and sharing and enhancing professionalism in the personnel, including proper management of constabulary and training. He called for regular State, Sector and District level Security meetings.

While appreciating security agencies for the efforts made in maintaining internal security, the Governor urged for continuous and better coordination amongst all security agencies for achieving sense of security among the populace and maintenance of law and order.   

The Governor emphasized that the security officers and personnel must involve in the positive engagement of community and youth where they serve. Live up to the trust and expectation and shed ‘indifferent attitude’. Be a model and help the people in finding alternative ways to do well in life, he pointed.

Taking the opportunity, the Governor urged the security agencies to strive for preservation of flora and fauna of the State and eradicate drug menace.  

In his keynote address, the Chief Minister said that the activities of the militants are impediments to the economic development of the State. All government development works like installation of hydro-electric projects, construction of highways, tourism, establishment of educational institution, hospitals etc. are slowed down. Private investment in various enterprises is discouraged. Hence, they are potential threat to the State and national security. He called all security organizations to work together.

The Chief Minister informed that the State Government has been following a multi-prolonged approach to deal with the challenge, including development, dedicated recruitment drive, enhancing security infrastructure and presence of forces, rather than to regulate the situation by use of force only.

State Home Minister, Parliamentary Secretary (Home) and Director General of Police Arunachal Pradesh S. Nithianandam also spoke on the inaugural session.

In the Plenary Session, the Principal Secretary (Home) Dharmendra Sharma gave a presentation on security scenario of the State. The General Officer Commanding, 4 Corps, Lt. General Sarath Chand and General Officer Commanding 3 Corps, Lt. General Bipin Rawat also gave presentations on security related issues.

DoNER secretary stresses on timely execution of schemes

ITANAGAR, Feb 2: DoNER Secretary R Vijay Kumar today stressed on timely execution of the schemes and projects for the benefit the common masses especially at the grass root.  

Speaking at a sectoral review meeting with all heads of departments headed by the state’s Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi at the conference hall of Planning department here this afternoon, Kumar called upon the officers to prepare realistic projects and develop a mechanism for proper utilization of funds. He advocated for taking up of small projects for welfare of the beneficiaries. Short term schemes would ease the sufferings of the people and make them happy, he added.  Earlier the DoNER secretary Vijay Kumar arrived here today on a four-day visit to the state to review the projects implemented under DONER, NLCPR and NEC.

In the meeting attended by senior officers including Commissioners, Secretaries and Directors of all departments implementing DONER, NLCPR and NEC funded schemes, the DONER Secretary had a thorough review of all projects under various departments including Power, PHED, PWD, RWD, WRD, Horticulture, Animal Husbandary, Agriculture and allied sectors etc.

Planning Secretary Sonam Chombay gave a brief presentation on the profile of the state highlighting key information covering socio-economic sectors, state health profile, infrastructure, literacy rate, Agriculture, Horticulture and projects under PM’s special package etc.

Earlier, the DONER Secretary inspected the State Civil Secretariat and Assembly buildings.  During his tour, Vijay Kumar would inspect some of the major DoNER funded projects including Soochna Bhawan at Papu Nallah, Water Supply Project at Yupia, Ranga Nadi Project, besides visiting Ziro and Tawang where he is supposed to hold meetings with the DCs and district officers.

Later in the evening, DoNER secretary R. Vijay Kumar called on the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma at Raj Bhawan. They discussed on connectivity and other sectors, which requires special focus in the State.

The Governor emphasized that DoNER ministry have to provide special focus on connectivity, i.e. road, railway and air connectivity for all round development in the State.  He said that lack of connectivity is the biggest hurdle to the development in the region and is holding up unlocking of the vast economic potential of the region. ANYA calls 12 hours Capital bandh on Feb 10

ITANAGAR, Feb 2: The All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) today called 12 hours Capital bandh on February 10 next reacting to the state government’s inconclusive solution on Pre-Paid electric meters at Capital Complex.

Since the introduction of Pre-Paid Meter by the power department various organizations have voiced its opposition claiming that pre-paid meter bills is exorbitant and faulty.  

Addressing the media persons at Press Club today, ANYA President Biri Kakum informed that ANYA will launch the phase wise manner agitation if the government fails to stop the installation of pre-paid meter.

ANYA demanded the government for immediate stoppage of pre-paid meter installation process and cancellation of ‘pay as you use method’ of the power department. Terming the current electricity bill rate as exorbitant, the association further demanded for the reduction of power tariff.

To be more accountable in revenue collection, the association also demanded the department and government to ensure the electricity bill be paid through treasury challan so that it checks revenue pilferage. It also sought for immediate constitution of Independent Inquiry Commission to inquire about revenue leakage, power pilferages, illegal tapping and non-payment of bill etc. The ANYA also demanded for immediate creation of Arunachal Pradesh Power Protection Force.

On being informed  that Govt had assured the All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) to suspend the prepaid meters installation paving the ANSU to call off its proposed 12 hours bandh, ANYA justified that it does not need assurance rather action from the government.

On query by the media persons that bandh affects daily wage earners, ANYA spokesperson Khyoda Ajin clarified that the association is fighting for the cause of poor people who are unable to pay electricity bills. He also opined that they should support their cause.

Meanwhile All Arunachal Pradesh Public Health Engineering and Water Supply Department Workers Union also demanded immediate pulling out of prepaid meter system. In a release that the union claimed that workers especially casual workers are unable to pay the bill as they get salary untimely.

 

 

Season’s first snowfall brings cheer to Mechukha

ITANAGAR, Feb 2: The picturesque Mechukha valley witnessed the season’s first snowfall on Friday bringing cheer to the faces of denizens as it ended a three-month long intense cold wave.

The snowfall that began on Thursday evening continued throughout Friday covering the entire picturesque town with a white blanket.

The locals as well as visitors cheered the fresh spell of snowfall as the snow clad mountains and trees provided a mesmerizing visual treat to them.

Locals and tourists alike were seen making snowman and hurled snowballs at each other besides taking snaps. Meanwhile, as Mechukha witnessed the season’s first snow fall, the people of Memba community are busy preparing for ‘Sonam Losar’ festival slated to be held on Tuesday next. Snow fall on the eve of Losar celebration is considered very significant for the Memba community as white colour of the snow signifies peace and prosperity.

 

 

ABKWW destroys opium fields, conducts awareness campaign

ROING, Feb 2: The Adi Bane Kebang Women Wing (ABKWW) Lower Dibang Valley district unit destroyed opium cultivation on a large scale at Anpum on Saturday last. The operation against opium cultivation was assisted by ADC Dambuk and CO Paglam.

The ABK women wing also conducted massive awareness campaign against drug abuse. In an awareness meeting held at Bizari village, the ABKWW highlighted the ill effects of drug through power point presentation and also organized a rally at Bizari. Reportedly, some of the women voluntarily destroyed their opium cultivation after being informed about the drug menace.

"Apart from creating awareness, we have also strongly appealed to all the mothers, students, elders of the villages and other learned people to spread awareness against drug abuse and cultivation for a drug free healthy society", informed a representative of the ABKWW. The ABK women wing expressed their gratitude to all the organizations and Govt agencies who extended their support in the fight against social menace. The ABKWW also decided to keep up this social vigil against drugs.

 

 

Donggin festival celebrated

ITANAGAR, Feb 2: The Donggin Festival of Adi community was celebrated today at Solung Mopin ground at Itanagar.

Speaking at the occasion, Adi Baane Kebang President Kangir Jamoh  said that tribal people are rich in oral tradition but time has come to document our oral tradition in written form so that it is preserved for the future generation.

He appealed the gathering to preserve and promote the age old tradition and culture of Adi community in particular and other tribal societies of Arunachal in general through various festivals.

He appreciated the effort of Tashor Pali in documenting the Donggin Mythology in written form for the first time in order to preserve it for future generation.  

MLA TamiyoTaga suggested the Adi community to revive and demonstrate traditional sports during festivals. He particularly urged the people to revive Mithun fight so that it can attract domestic and foreign tourist. He also urged people to maintain the spirit of unity and discipline while observing the festivals and added that besides Solung festival, other major festivals like Unying Aran, Donggin, Podi Barbi should be celebrated wholeheartedly by the entire Adi community.

ABK Secretary General, BodongYirang in his speech informed that the Adi is recognized as one community. So there should not be any distinctions among the Adis based on sub-tribes as the sub-tribes that was used to be mentioned in Scheduled Tribe Certificates has been omitted by Govt of Arunachal Pradesh years back following ABK’s persuasion.

Senior members of the society Bilatee Pertin, HanggungYaying and DFCC, Itanagar President Tamer Pabin also spoke on the occasion, while, Tashor Pali, read out the Donggin Mythology.

Apart from traditional dance, modern dances were also performed by various groups as a part of the day long festival celebration and an Audio Album titled “Donggin Gídí” produced by KalingTaket was released by MLA TamiyoTaga on the occasion.

 

 

Runu Boham crowned Miss Wancho

I have absolutely no qualms about admitting that in the early 70s I had very happily sported loin (lengti in Assamese and khatri in Nocte) along with the children of my age.

Then, I had also seen very scantily dressed Wancho boys and girls, especially in the interior areas. But with the advent of time the scenario is totally different today. This was amply displayed and amplified by the gorgeous young Wancho girls during the Miss Wancho-2015 Beauty Contest at picturesque Kanubari ADC headquarters on 1st February on a cold winter night amidst a mammoth gathering. The beautiful girls not only displayed their superbly chiseled bodies and sweet smiles as they walked confidently on the ramp amidst shouts and applause of the huge crowd but also demonstrated their latent talent in cat-walking, dancing, dressing and of course communicating in chaste English and Hindi.

I was one of the judges and was pleasantly surprised to see the beautiful girls oozing such confidence as they mesmerized the huge gathering including me with their beauty and brain. I was also elated to learn from some of their profiles that many of them were studying in reputed colleges outside Arunachal Pradesh. This rekindled my belief that the young Wancho girls have traversed a long and arduous journey from the early 70s to the present day and are raring to go. Today the sky is the limit for them.

Miss Runu Boham, a B.Com final year student of Lady Sriram College, New Delhi was crowned the Miss Wancho-2015 amidst a thunderous applause. Miss Sumi Wangsu bagged the first runners-up while Moon Jamikham, pursuing Masters in Sociology won the second runners-up. The winners were crowned by the local MLA Grabiel D. Wangsu. There were other prizes too for sub-titles like Miss Cat-walk, Miss Talent, Miss Photogenic etc.

Earlier, in his address Civil Aviation, Supply and Transport Minister Thangwang Wangham congratulated the organizers for organizing the event. Such an effort would provide a platform to the Wancho girls to show-case their hidden talents, he said. He was happy to witness the overwhelming response from the people and hoped that the Wancho girls would equip themselves well to compete against the best. Wangham asked the youth to shun the twin menace of drug addiction and alcoholism.

Sharing his views on the occasion the local MLA, a journalist-turned politician, who is a man of words lamented that Longding district was always in the news for all the wrong reasons and urged the youth to change the image of the district by shining in their chosen fields. He also lauded the organizers for the great show they presented.

Attractive cultural programmes marked the beauty pageant which was attended by Ex-Minister Noksang Boham, former Longding ZPC Rongnai Maham, ADC, CO, Kanubari and a host of other dignitaries.

 

 

Experts call for regular teacher-training in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, Feb 2: “Develop Core groups of master Trainers in each district. They in turn must conduct regular training workshops in Mathematics across the district, specially focussing on skill development of every teacher who teaches maths”, appealed Er Tayum Tok, Ex Engineer, PHE, Namsai, while addressing the gathering of mathematics teachers, teacher educators and Education Dept officials at the DIET, Roing on Jan 28, 2015. He was inaugurating a series of 2 day-workshops for teachers of Roing and Tezu conducted by the Association of Mathematics Teachers of India (AMTI), Chennai, as a part of its Golden Jubilee Celebrations. Tok also stressed the need for encouraging and equipping more young Arunachali teachers to promote maths education and mathematical orientation in the state.

This was echoed by the Deputy Commissioner, Lower Dibang Valley, Shiv Kumar IAS, who in his address at Roing, agreed that a selected band of maths teachers could be deputed outside the state to be trained as master trainers. Quoting the Super 30 trainer in Bihar, who had helped several impoverished youths to shine in IIT Entrance tests, he appealed to the teachers to spiritedly work to stimulate interest in Mathematics among the Arunachalee youth.

Expressing great joy in the AMTI conducting its 2nd workshop in Roing, DDSE, Mijum Lego assured his full support for training more bands of maths teachers in the district.

M. Mahaddevan, a well-known mathematics teacher-educator and a former Principal of Kendriya Vidyalays and General Secretary of AMTI and S. R. Santhanam, Maths coach for IITs and National Maths Olympiad, acted as the resource-persons, providing a number of innovative techniques and skills in making maths as a joyful subject.

“AMTI is willing to provide trainers’ training to maths teachers of Arunachal schools during the coming vacation April- May”, offered Mahadevan, while addressing the inaugural session.  

Santhanam conducted interesting sessions on ‘How to develop non-routine problems to discover talented students” and several mathematical games to stimulate fun and joy while learning maths. “Such workshops to be effective must be of minimum of four days duration”, he advised. He also briefed the teachers re: participation of students in the National & International Maths Olympiads.

The Workshop at Tezu was inaugurated by Nilima Kumar, ADC, Tezu. She advised the teachers to share the benefits of the workshop with their students.

Mana Linggi, DDSE Lohit, declared that the Lohit Education dept has been always taking the lead to organize many innovative training programmes by many organisations, jointly with the Education Dept of Anjaw and the Bamboosa Library, Tezu.

Dr. R.C Nayake, ADEO, Anjaw, speaking on behalf of DDSE Anjaw, assured the AMTI all support in promoting maths education in remote pockets of Anjaw district.

Addressing the valedictory session at Tezu, Dr. P. C. Swain, Assistant Professor Indira Gandhi Govt College, Tezu appealed to more schools and teachers to join hands in training programmes to promote interest in mathematics among the youth. “Mathematics is a subject related to every other subject, and important for every human being; no one can claim that he is not concerned with Maths”, Dr Swain reminded.

The workshop at Roing was organised by District Education Dept, jointly with District Administration, RIWATCH, Roing, Intaya Public School and Kasturba Gandhi Institute of Higher Education, Roing. At Tezu it was organised by the Lohit & Anjaw SSA Zilla Mission, jointly with the Bamboosa Library, Tezu.

The workshop targeting teachers of classes 8 to 12 in both Govt and private schools, was aimed to generate new insights in innovative teaching among maths teachers and make mathematics more joyful to the students. Nearly 70 teachers and teacher-trainers apart from Education Dept officials attended the workshop.

A similar workshop is being organized at Dibrugarh by Sampoorna Kendra Vidyalaya also. The workshops were coordinated by RIWATCH, Roing & the Bamboosa Library, Tezu.

 

 

AdiSU donates stationery items to Gandhi Sec. School, rejects SP’s clarification

ITANAGAR, Feb 2: A team of Adi Students Union (AdiSU) today visited the Govt. Gandhi Sec. School Pasighat and donated stationery items to the in-charge of the school.  

The school was devastated by fire on January 28 last.

Former Education Minister Bosiram Siram also visited the school and interacted with the AdiSU team. During the interaction, Siram highlighted some important issues relating to education sector, informed AdiSU in a release.

The teachers of the school have also highlighted some problems faced by them in performing their duties.

Meanwhile, AdiSU president Mida Pertin assured to take up the issues with the authorities concerned for early redressal. He also stated that issues relating to education would not be compromised at any cost. He also strongly appealed to the District Administration to find out the actual cause of the recent fire in the school and to take all necessary pre-cautionary measures to avoid such incidents in future.

Meanwhile, AdiSU rejected the clarification given by East Siang Superintendent of Police on recent fire accident at Gandhi Secondary school and called upon the Fire department to admit their inefficiency and delayed response on that day.

“It is the duty of the fire brigade to keep themselves always ready to fight such accident because this kind of accidents does not occur with prior information,” AdiSU said.

District level CM’s Trophy results

ITANAGAR, Feb 02: Chayangtajo won the district level men's football competition for CM's Trophy defeating Seppa West 1-0 in the final, reports DIPRO, Seppa. The winner was scored by Sonam Bagang.  

In women's football, Seppa East beat Seppa West by solitary goal in the final.

Amar Weshi and Purti Lochung were declared best men and women football players respectively.

Bameng defeated Seppa East in men's volleyball and Seijosa of Pakke Kessang defeated Bameng in women's volleyball.

Master Kya Pacha and Mejo Gollo were the best men and women volleyball players respectively.

The winners, runners up teams and best players were awarded cash prizes.

Khonsa DIPRO adds: The Tirap District Level Football and Volleyball competitions for CM's Trophy concluded at general ground, Deomali on January 30.

Dadam -XI from 56th - Khonsa West Constituency won the Men's football while Deomali team won the women's football title.

TNT Team from 55-Khonsa East constituency won the men's volleyball title while Deomali team won title in women's category of the event.

Manto Afi from Dadam-XI and Phanyan Aboh from Chinkoi team of 56-A/C were declared best men and women football players respectively.

The best player award in women's volleyball went to Benny Sawin of 54-Assembly Constituency.

The winning teams will represent Tirap in the State level CM's Trophy scheduled to be held from February 9 at Itanagar.

Tirap Deputy Commissioner Kamlesh Joshi and SP Ajit Kumar Singla distributed the prizes to the winning and runners up teams.

Earlier, SDO Deomali kicked off the competition at Deomali general ground on January 29.

Take relation to new level

The recent bonhomie between India and United States of America has not gone down well with neighbouring China. After the end of the President Barack Obama’s visit to India, Chinese media poured scorn over growing proximity between US and India. It is in this context that the current visit of external affairs Susma Swaraj to China assumes significance. On her first visit to China as foreign minister, Swaraj said India remains committed to an "early settlement" of the border issues.

As per media report the two neighbours have begun working on a slew of agreements to reduce differences on all outstanding issues. The agreements are likely to be finalized during Modi's visit to Beijing in May month. Swaraj especially spoke about out-of-box solution to solve some of the issues. This gives hope that one may see some development in regards to vexed border row. Also in a major development breaking away from tradition, Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday met external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj. Chinese leadership continue to exhibit strong will to resolve issues but their army acts differently at ground level. It is time they pull plug and stop their army from indulging in adventure activities along international boundary, so that relation between two giant neighbours goes to next level.

A clarification

Dear Editor,

This is in reference to a letter published on 31st January 2015 regarding the demands of Siang District Headquarter Demand Committee (SDHDC) to declare Boleng as the Headquarter of newly created Siang District by Nalo Pada.

At the outset, I would like to clarify that the statements made by him is totally false and fabricated and hence the demands and claims of the general public of Riga, Boleng, Pegi-Bote, Rumgong, Jomlo Mobuk, kebang, Rebo-Perging, Payum and Kaying are genuine and is based upon the consensus of the general public of the concerned areas. It is pertinent to mention here that two Committees were constituted under the directions of  MLA 32 Assembly constituency Tamiyo Taga and MLA 35 Assembly Constituency Tapang Taloh, namely:- Proposed Siang District Headquarter Committee(PSDHC) under the chairmanship of Taje Komut (Ex-vice president) Rumgong comprising the PRI's members, Public Leaders of 32 Rumgong and 35 Pangin- Boleng constituencies and the Siang District Reoganisation Intellectual Forum(SDRIF) under the chairmanship of Tagong Ketan(Chief Engineer) Itanagar comprising the Officers and intellectuals of both constituencies to select the appropriate location/area for headquarter as per feasibility.

Accordingly, both the Committees recommended Boleng to be the Headquarters of the Siang District which was accepted by the both MLA's of 32 and 35 (ST) Assembly Constituencies in front of the public at Hotel Dawnland at Itanagar. It is interesting to note that Nalo Pada himself was the committee member of the SDRIF headed by Tagong Ketan(CE),representing Kebang-Pangin Circle. As per the records available, he himself gave his consent in favour of Boleng. Being a member of the committee it is unbecoming on his part to say that the recommendations of the committees have no legal stand. We also request him not to make any irrelevant comment without knowing the ground realities.

Further, we are unaware of the final sitting held on 29th Nov'2014 as mentioned by him. Therefore, the general public of 32 and 35 constituencies once again earnestly request to look into our genuine demands for which we shall remain ever grateful.

Democracy is for the people, not "OFF" the people

Dear Editor,

The power department, GoAP seems to be adamant on installing pre-paid meter system in all the households, although it has been temporarily suspended. But the irony of the matter is that, our services are not pre- paid. Rather they are post-paid, i.e our employers pay our salary only after rendering of our   month long services. How nice it would have been if our salary(ies) too were pre-paid. Service holders are able to clear their dues only after getting their hard earned salary. Sometimes, there is delay in payment by our employers. One has to think for the contractual employees also, who, usually get salary after four, five or may be more months. Also, there can be other ways to deal with such power defaulters.

In connection with the ongoing tussle between GoAP and the people of AP, some of the questions that naturally come to my mind are: - What happened to our earlier meter system? Was not it generating the desired amount of revenue as expected by the department? Did they do the required introspection and retrospection honestly as to why the earlier system failed, if it did? If power theft and the defaulters could not be dealt with efficiently, how far it’s justified to “bolt" all of us in a "whole-sale package" way as if, all of us together committed a crime? And is the pre-paid system the only permanent panacea to all power related problems? Of course, I have no right to question about the using and mis-using of the revenue so collected by the stake-holders.

I think, no one is against the idea of power economy, revenue generation and checking of its leakages etc. But I do strongly feel that, making the pre paid system "compulsory" by using might and force is not fair on the part of a people friendly government as very often claimed.

I don't believe in throwing wild allegations, unlike many, by pointing towards a suspected nexus between the executing agencies and the suppliers of the much talked about new equipment. But I feel that if at all its to be introduced, it can be made "optional" and let post- paid system also continue parallel or side by side like our mobile services. But electricity and mobile phones can't be taken as similar because "bijlee" is among the most basic requirements. So that people can adjust accordingly and in due course of time, if they are amply convinced about the "plus points" of the new system, they may  voluntarily get motivated to accept the better system. This way, we can arrive at a more acceptable  solution to the problem without any controversy.

After all, democracy is for the people, by the people, of the people and not "OFF" the people.

Declare result early

Dear Editor,

Through your esteemed daily, I would like to appeal to APPSC to declare the result of recently held interview to appoint Medical officer Homeopathy and Ayurveda as soon as possible. As days are passing by, hope of fair selection is getting diminished.

There were just 70 candidates and responses were given on OMR sheet. So what is taking so long for the results to be declared? It would just take few days to declare the compile and declare the results. Therefore, I request the Commission to do the needful.
